SELAH: To Pause & Reflect

KEY POINT:

Life can get too busy real fast either with blessings or challenges.  It is important to be able to pause and reflect so we can appreciate the truth that no matter what stage of life you’re in, God is your ever present help.

OPEN:

What are some of the blessings you’ve already experienced this year?  How do you attribute it to God?

What about challenges?  How do you respond to challenges in life?

CONNECT:

  1. Read Psalm 46:1-7.  Identify as many of the character traits of God that are mentioned by the Psalmist.
  2. To seek refuge is to seek safety or protection from the challenges of life.  Where do people normally go to “get away”?  How is God our true refuge?  Read Psalm 61:2-4.
  3. How does one gain strength?  Remember the saying, “No pain, no gain”.  In what ways can God increase our strength?  Read Hebrews 5:8.  What can we learn from the suffering of Jesus?
  4. Read Phil. 4:13.  What are some of the things we can do “through suffering” that teach us to depend and trust in God as our strength?
  5. Read John 10:10.  Describe your perspective on “abundant life”.  Read John 15:4-7. How do we draw life from Jesus?

TAKE IT HOME:

  1. Take a moment and give each one some time to share how they intend to apply these truths about God during the week.
  2. Close in prayer.
